Caerphilly Castle FC were delighted to welcome more than 1,200 young footballers to Virginia Park for our annual girls's football festival - while also raising more than £600 for children's cancer charity LATCH. Now in it's fourth year, the festival took place across june 27 and 28 and brought together 122 teams from across South Wales, with players ranging from Under-6s through to Under-14s. With around 2,400 parents, supporters and spectators attending across the weekend, it was a fantastic celebration of girls' football and the continue growth of the game in Caephilly and across South Wales.
A FESTIVAL FOR GIRLS FOOTBALL
The weekend saw hundereds of matches played, giving young players of all abilities the opporunity to enjoy competitive football, develop thier skills and, most importantly, have fun with their teammates. Teams competed across a range of age groups, with both morning and afternoon sessions taking place over the two days. Away from the football, there was also plenty going on for families to enjoy, including food, coffee, sweet stalls and a bouncy castle/ The atmosphere throughout thr weekend was fantastic, with players, acoaches, referess, volunteers, parents and supporters all helping to make the festival such a success.
Supporting LATCH
As well as celebrating girls' football, this year's festival was also an opportunity for Caerphilly Castle FC to support an important local cause. The club donated 15% of all team entry fees to LATCH, raising more than £600 for the children's cancer charity. LATCH is based at the Children's Hospital for Wales in Cardiff and provides support to children and families affected by childhood cancer. We are incredibly proud that our football festival could help raise money for such an important cause.
A Growing Girls' Football Festival
The growth of the festival over the last four years has been remarkable. When the event was relaunched, around 30 teams took part. This year's festival welcomed 122 teams, highlighting just how much girls' football has grown in the local area. The festival has now become one of the largest all-girls and women's grassroots football tournaments in South Wales, and we are incredibly proud of everyone who has helped make that possible. From the players and coaches to our referees, volunteers, sponsors and supporters, the weekend would not have been possible without the incredible effort of everyone involved.
